| How Should U.S. Deal With Iran |
| Force or military action can never be used or substituted for dialogue and no amount of subterfuge could white wash the thinking of those who see might as right. But history will not be kind to those type of individuals. |

| Middle East reacts to caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad |
The depiction of the Prophet Mohammad in European newspapers has sparked violent protests in the Middle East and threatens relations between Muslims and non Muslim.and there has been severe critism against the publishers.
The furor and widespread demonstrations which have escalated into violent clashes following the re-publication of a number of cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad, show no signs of abating and have indeed spawned more problems than ever imagined by those who have seriously under-estimated the repercussions of a flawed decision to publish the caricatures in the first place.
The 12 cartoons, one of which portrayed the Prophet with a bomb-shaped turban, were first published on September 30, last year by the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten, whose editor was either unmindful of the views of Islam’s 1.5 billion followers or cared less about the ramifications of his intent, which was clearly not to educate or inform, but rather, to humiliate and make fun of.

| A Solution To The Palestinian Conflict May Be Achievable |
By Edwin Ali
The sandstorm, which followed the landslide victory by Hamas in the Gaza and West Bank elections, is only now beginning to settle and despite the rhetoric, threat and dogmatic attitude of s! ome, there are indications that all the parties to the conflict are beginning to recognize that there is a small opening for dialogue.
This has become more evident by a statement by Khaled Meshaal, the political leader of the militant group, that Hamas is willing to take a serious step towards peace if Israel does the same. He made it clear however that Hamas will not renounce violence; saying resisting an occupation was legal. The political leader said a long-term truce would be possible if Israel accepted conditions including a return to its 1967 borders.
This position may create some problems especially in the light of a statement by Israel’s acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert who said Israel plans to separate from most of the Palestinians in the West Bank and this would require withdrawing from some of the territory.
“We will disengage from most of the Palestinian population that lives in Judea and Samaria”, he said. “This would obligate us to leave territories under Israeli control today.” Israel would keep Maaleh Adumin, a settlement of 30,000 next to Jerusalem, Gush Etzion, a bloc of settlements south of Jerusalem; Ariel, a settlement of 18,000 deep in the West Bank and the Jordan River Valley. |

| Nigeria suspended from Commonwealth |
Nigeria suspended from Commonwealth
Caribbean Today; December 31, 1995; Edwin Ali Edwin Ali
Recent reprehensible acts in Nigeria have led to that nation's suspension from the Commonwealth, creating a first time action in the history of the world body.
The Commonwealth suspended Nigeria as punishment for hanging nine minority rights activists and threatening its military rulers with outright expulsion unless they restored democracy.
The penalty was unprecedented in the history of the Commonwealth, a 52-strong club grouping Britain and its former colonies, and reflected deep revulsion over Nigeria's human rights record over a number of years, ministers said.
Only The Gambia, itself under military rule, dissented from the decision, which came just a day after Nigeria ignored international appeals for clemency and hanged writer Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight associates. The Solomon Islands, which also dissented initially, later fell into line. |

| A Call To Action |
Former Congressman Calls on Muslims to Help Set America on Right Course
By Edwin Ali
Former Congressman and world renowned author Paul Findley has lamented the bias against Muslims in America following 9/11 and made a stirring appeal to the followers of Islam to help set this country back on the right course. “We, each of us, ought to do something to set America back on the right course, because America is on a gravely mistaken course Muslims have to do more to set the record straight in so far as Islam is concerned. First, go to church, speak to the preacher, and offer to answer questions. There will be literally thousands of people who will be better informed,” he told participants to the second annual South Florida Banquet of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) at the Hilton Hotel in Ft. Lauderdale. |

Today’s fears of Muslims in the USA
(The following article originally appeared yesterday in the 'Weekend Nation' of Barbados) Analysis by Rickey SinghCANADA'S commendable stand against what it views as "blatant racial profiling" by United States authorities in the wake of last year's terrorist strikes against America, came earlier in the week as I was perusing a just-released publication by a Guyana-born journalist living in Florida. "Muslims in America After The Catastrophic Tragedy of 9/ll" is Edwin Ali's 123-page book contribution to what is evolving as a major post-9/11 problem for some ten million Muslims living in the USA. Most of them are now American citizens and include those of the Caribbean Diaspora. |
