Writer Edwin Ali recently visited the offices of our sister publication, Cayman Net News, to talk about his life as a writer, and his most recent book, “Muslims in America after the Catastrophic Tragedy of 9/11”

GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands: A distinguished Guyanese writer and former editor-in-chief of the Guyana Broadcasting Corporation, Edwin Ali, stopped in the Cayman Islands recently, on a cruise with the ship, the Caribbean Princess.

Mr. Ali has over 40 years’ experience as a writer, first for newspapers and later as the author of two books. His first one, called “The Rise of the Phoenix,” deals with 50 years of Guyanese politics from the late1940s to the late 1990s.

Air Jamaica is one year old and soaring.

Air Jamaica is one year old and its success is legion, having proven over the past 12 months that efficiency and professionalism can provide that extra momentum to maintain and improve a service such as a national carrier of which West Indians can be proud.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Gordon "Butch" Stewart told Caribbean Today that full credit should go to the staff which responded admirably to the call to improve the carrier and improve its on-time performance.

The beauty and splendor of Jamaica encompasses not only its beautiful beaches and mountains, but there are also very many attractions including the Jamaica Grande.
The Jamaica Grande - located on the white-sand beaches of Mallards Bay in Ocho Rios - is Jamaica's newest and largest resort hotel. An architectural "marriage" of the Americana Beach Resort and the Mallards Beach Resort (now the North and South Towers, respectively), the Jamaica Grande features 720 rooms, each with a private balcony. The two towers are joined by an open-air lobby that overlooks the blue waters of the Caribbean and the lush foothills of Ocho Rios.
Centerpiece of the resort is a spectacular fantasy swimming pool complex that features 26-foot-high waterfalls - fashioned after the famous Dunn's River Falls - swim-through grottos, swim-up bar, Jacuzzis and walk-over swing bridge.

Former Congressman Calls on Muslims to Help Set America on Right Course
By Edwin Ali
Former Congressman and world renowned author Paul Findley has lamented the bias against Muslims in America following 9/11 and made a stirring appeal to the followers of Islam to help set this country back on the right course.
“We, each of us, ought to do something to set America back on the right course, because America is on a gravely mistaken course Muslims have to do more to set the record straight in so far as Islam is concerned. First, go to church, speak to the preacher, and offer to answer questions. There will be literally thousands of people who will be better informed,” he told partici! pants to the second annual South Florida Banquet of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) at the Hilton Hotel in Ft. Lauderdale.

The Bobbit Ruling
Edwin Ali
Caribbean Today

02-28-1994

Some men may soon be walking around without their most treasured organ as a result of the recent jury ruling in the Lorena Bobbitt trial. That ruling maybe construed by some as giving them license to sever that vital organ if they perceive that they are threatened. Given the society in which we live, the ruling is critical to the future of those West Indians who are followers of the game of cricket, and having two balls and no bat, they are so to speak, `out of the game.' The bat having been severed in a fit of uncontrollable anger or ...
