Emerge USA Continues To Make Impact on Underrepresented communities

 

     Members and supporters of Emerge USA have been challenged

To get more involved in community affairs and should take positive

Steps in running for office in the Legislature, for Mayors, school

Boards and other offices.

     The call came at a Banquet to make the 7th anniversary of the

Founding of the Organization which is a national non-partisan organization that aspires to ensure that under represented communities have the same constitutional fights, social privileges and political opportunities afforded to all Americans.

 

     The program got underway with a pledge of allegiance by three

Students from Mutaqeen Masjid and a Quranic recitation followed

 By opening remarks by Saif Ishoof.

 

     In his welcoming remarks  Rammi Khan traced the history of the

Organization which also celebrated its seventh anniversary. He also

Spoke of the challenges and achievements of Emerge USA.

 

     The well attended function was reminded of the goal of the

Organization to encourage grassroots networking as one of its aims

To politically empower and train its constituents to the effective community organizers and work in coalitions to advance beneficial policies and legislation that help protect and enforce the rights afforded by the United States Constitution.

 


  Michigan State Representative Rashida Tlaib a Palestinian who became Michigan’s first Muslim woman to be elected, gave the Key note address in which she traced the difficulties, insults and threats During her campaign for office.

 

    The theme of her presentation was “Importance of Political Engagement” and wasted no time in telling  the participants of the struggles which she overcame  during her campaign and her eventual

Success.

This coincided with the theme of “Inspiring a New Generation”.

     Ms. Tlaib received a standing ovation as she encouraged the \

Gathering to pursue activities that would enhance the communities

In which they live and not be discouraged by  those who stereotype  all

Muslims.

 

     Community efforts to build a stronger environment is necessary

she emphasized.

 

    Congressman Patrick Murphy who defeated Allan West in the election said: “I am very proud of the diverse coalition that led me to victory. The Muslim, Arab and South Asian American communities in Florida and nationally were an instrumental part of our team for the past 18 months”.

 

     He thanked EMERGE USA Co Chairman Khurrum Wahid and

Board member Farouk Tahri for their support and pointed out that

     Mr. Murphy called for the involvement of everyone in the

     In reflecting on her role in Congress, Ms. Tlaib reminded the

Everyone to get involved so that the playing field will be level and therefore can be part of the American fabric.

 

     Ceasar noted that there is a need for an organization like Emerge USA  which he supports, to ensure that  there is community involvement.

 

     Laila Abdelaziz made an Emerging Leadership Presentation in which She traced the progress of the organization in the field of youth training.

 

     The organization, she said, has been able to bring together

A group of youths from all walks in life and mould them into

A close knit family.

 

     She also reminded the gathering that the Muslims are not the

Of the organization were able to secure internships in the office of U.S. Senator  Bill Nelson Tampa Congresswoman Kathy Castor, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and many other elected officials.

 

     Imam Tahir Anwar who spoke on Islam and Civic Engagement

Spoke of the opportunity Muslims have in making their votes

Count and pointed that Muslims have a job to serve humanity.

That is why it is essential for them to vote, unlike their brethren

In some Muslim countries which are ruled by tyrants and they

Do not allow their people to vote.

 

     Co-Chairman of Emerge USA Khurrum Wahid outlined some

Of the reasons why members should support the organization and praised the members of Emerge UKSA for playing a crucial role

In American politics.

     He noted that emerging leaders was fully revamped to follow the model of some of the top leadership development programs in the county

 

“We took steps to ensure the resources were in place to make the Emerging Leaders program among the elite leadership development programs for college age young people across the state” he noted.

 

     “Through our Emerging data program, our data base of registered

MASA voters grew from 120,000 to above 150,000. This continued investment into a core asset of the community will  allow for us to

Continuously gather information through our constant polling of this database in order to produce data for social and political science research, media and elected officials about the MASA community, he added.

 

    The gathering was surged to donate generously so that the organization can continue and expand its work. The fund raising

Effort netted $85,000.

     Other participants include Congressman Kendrick Meeks and

Colonel Polock of the Broward Sheriffs’s office.

 

The evening closed with the presentation of awards to Nadar Abara for raising \awareness to the plight of the Syrian people and Asad Ishoof.
